It is always exciting and gratifying when one is recognized for their hard work. The Neurobiology Major proudly recognizes its award recipients and all that they contribute to making our major strong. We congratulate the students listed here on their achievements. Spring 2018

Ann Durra Scholarship Fund
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in mathematics, the physical sciences, or the natural sciences. Mr. Jack A. Durra (MS Economics 1952) established this award in memory of his wife, Ann Durra.

Betty Nelson Humanities Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to L&S undergraduates majoring in the humanities with good academic standing. Recipients display academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment.

College of Letters and Science General Scholarship- Sophomore
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving Junior or Senior in the College of Letters and Science. Donor criteria and the College of Letters & Science criteria (academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment).

David H. Durra Scholarship
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in the physical sciences or mathematics. Jack Durra (BS, 1952 and MS 1953, Economics) established this fund in honor of his late father, David H. Durra.

Dyann and Peter Wirth Scholarship
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving woman who is a Junior or Senior in the biological or physical sciences. Or, this scholarship supports L&S Juniors or Seniors who are the first in their families to attend college (first generation).

Earl D. Johnson Endowed Scholarship for Seniors
Recipient is a Senior with a 3.8 grade point average or higher. This fund was set up with gifts from the family and friends of Earl D. Johnson, General Dynamics Corporation and the Arie and Ida Crown Memorial. Mr. Johnson was a 1928 graduate of the College of Letters and Science.

Kathy and Clark Gridley Scholarship Fund
This three-year scholarship is awarded to a high achieving Sophomore, who is a self-reliant, currently employed, resident of Wisconsin. Preference is given to students involved in community service. Clark Gridley graduated from the UW-Madison with a BA in Economics in 1979.

Leo and Jean Besozzi Scholarship
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving Senior maintaining full-time status. Criteria for selection are academic excellence, community service, leadership, diversity, strength of character, and creative accomplishment.

Margaret E. and Allard Smith Undergraduate Scholarship
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving Sophomore. This fund, established in 1975 by Margaret E. Smith is given to students who display academic excellence, community service, leadership, character in the face of adversity and creativity.

Marion A. Hicks Scholarship
This scholarship provides a one-time award to a high achieving Sophomore who is a Wisconsin resident. Award amounts are subject to vary at any time. Stratton E. Hicks, the brother of Marion A. Hicks (BA Chemistry 1920; MS Education and Speech 1932), to honor his sisters’ memory, established this award.

Merlin E. Silverthorn Scholarship Fund
awarded to a high achieving Junior or Senior majoring in the physical or biological sciences, computer science or mathematics.
Kara Mortensen

University League General Scholarship
The University League, a non-profit membership organization founded in 1901, has a long history of supporting UW-Madison students. Since 1985 the League has given more than $1,000,000 in scholarship funding and grants to UW related organizations. The League’s mission is to raise scholarship money, and provide interest groups, volunteer opportunities, and social activities for its members.
